A One day course

We live at a time of constant connectivity to the Internet. This not only offers great opportunities for education, learning, socialising and networking – it is also transforming how we live. Access to social media and messaging services like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and gaming services mean we can now stay more connected to friends and family. However, these technologies can also present challenges. From sexting and cyberbullying to issues like overuse, distraction, anxiety, peer pressure, addiction, oversharing and access to dangerous content and contact, the Internet can present many challenges.

This one day WISE KIDS training workshop will explore these developments and provide practical knowledge and strategies that will help practitioners help children and young people to use digital and online technologies safely, mindfully, creatively and positively in ways that promote their well-being and resilience. It will specifically address the themes of ‘digital resilience’ (resilience related to interactions in digitally mediated environments) – and the need to support young people to not merely keep safe, but to be ‘inspired, active, kind digital citizens’, able to think and act with their heads and heart, able to create positive content and develop a positive footprint, offer support to others who are struggling, and lead a balanced life. These are essential skills for children growing up, socialising, learning and having relationships – online and offline. The workshop will also draw on research findings in mindfulness and positive psychology, to explore ideas for developing well-being. All participants will also gain access to a specially created Google site with links to videos and other material they can use with the young people they work with.
