One day course

No child is the same, which also means that no story will be the same either. All children deserve to grow up making happy memories. For some vulnerable children and their families this can be difficult for one reason or another.

This course will help you to identify early on the needs of vulnerable children, babies and their families so they can enjoy a safe and fulfilled life.

The aim is to support foster carers, social workers and practitioners working with children and young people to make sense of their past and preserve their memories.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Know the reasons for undertaking life story work and how it can help children and young people
  • Have explored their role within life story work
  • Have identified ways you can help children and young people to communicate about the past, present and future

About the trainer

Jon has worked with preschool children as well as young people leaving care, children with disabilities and those involved in the Youth Justice system. As Manager of Gibbonsdown Children’s Centre he was responsible for setting up and running the first children’s centre in Wales. When working for Cardiff Gypsy Sites group Jon set up and ran the first summer play scheme and youth club for Gypsy Traveller children in the country. Jon has a wide experience of hands on work as well as working at a strategic a level.

Jon writes a regular blog on his two interests working with fathers and E-safety.  He first became involved in supporting fathers while working for the Preschool Playgroups Association.  Jon said “Men’s involvement with young children especially in the early years has traditionally been been discouraged by society. Yet many studies show us that the positive future outcomes for children who have involved fathers are very good indeed.”
