One day course

Neuroscience shows the importance of attachment and infant brain development for long-term health and wellbeing. Emotional and school readiness are now key priorities for Early Years Foundation Phase and Health Care Professionals. This one day course will equip you to explain bonding and brain development to parents one-to-one, using the unique GroBrain range of visual tools.

Who is the training for?
Health visitors, midwives, children’s centre staff, nursery nurses and family support workers.

Course outcomes
By the end of the day participants should be able to:

  • Explain the three parts of the brain and their functions
  • Explain how parents ‘wire up’ their baby’s brain
  • Explain how the stress response is set in the early years
  • Analyse different attachment types and their effects across the age span
  • Describe and model how to attune to babies’ needs and wants
  • Explain these concepts simply one-to-one to parents using GroBrain resources.
  • This is a very practical day! Course participants are encouraged to read Margot Sunderland’s book What every parent needs to know, before attending the course.

Promoting bonding and brain development

Are you a health professional or Early Years practitioner needing to talk to parents about bonding, brain development and infant mental health? These complex topics support the HCP and 1001 Critical Days but are hard to explain in a way that parents can understand and implement.

How GroBrain helps

GroBrain is a unique range of resources you can use with parents antenatally or postnatally, either one-to-one or in groups. They are visual and interactive, and have proved to be effective with a wide range of parents. Most of our resources are linked to training so practitioners understand the theory and GroBrain methodology.

The cost will cover, training fees, notes, and a selection of resources for use one to-one with parents including our new Key Messages on Bonding and Brain Development book. Light refreshments and lunch will be provided.

Please ensure to have a purchase order number to hand when making your booking. This should be obtained from your finance department.
