Half day course

This  workshop is aimed at supporting a better understanding of current Welsh Government Policy and Programmes

The session will support people from a wide range of organisations to understand the distinctive Welsh legislative and policy framework for children and families that has developed as a result of increasing devolution from Westminster. The session will consider the current Welsh Government Programme for Government – Taking Wales Forward, and the associated National Strategy – Prosperity for All. We will consider the key messages for children and families in these documents including how Children’s Rights are being addressed through initiatives on child poverty, health, social care and education. The course will explore Welsh Government programmes considering the roles and priorities of different sectors involved in delivering these and the challenges faced by everyone.

Learning Outcomes Participants will:

  • Gain an brief overview of the political context and processes that shape policy in Wales
  • Learn about Welsh Government policies, programmes and strategies relevant to children and young people
  • Understanding the national priorities for children and family services
  • Explore how their organisation and key areas of work fit with the main policy areas concerning children, young people and families.

Who is it aimed at:
