Advocacy services for children and young people in Torfaen are run by the National Youth Advocacy Service.
All children can access advocacy support. An advocate ensures that children are being listened to when decisions are being made about them, and empowers the child to make their voice heard. Sometimes this may mean speaking up for them in meetings or writing letters for them on their behalf. Other times it may mean providing the support to enable them to do this themselves.
NYAS provides an independent advocacy service for children and young people who are looked after by the local authority or those who are in need. These children and young people are provided with an information pack , plus a quarterly copy of the magazine Who Cares.
Children and young people can access advocacy themselves or via their social worker, foster carer, solicitor or an independent visitor.
