The Participation Service works in partnership with the children and young people of Merthyr Tydfil to develop and support a county-wide children & young people’s forum.

Working with all agencies in Merthyr through the Listening to Children Group – a steering group that reports to the Framework for Partnership on the development of children & young people’s participation – the service provides a co-ordinating role for the identification of participation opportunities and supports training & development initiatives for agencies & young people’s groups through the Merthyr Tydfil Participation Strategy.

The service added to its existing participation work with the launch of its advocacy service in Merthyr Tydfil on September 24th 2004 by Rhian Davies, Assistant Children's Commissioner for Wales.

The Advocacy service provides independent advocacy support to children and young people 'looked after' or qualifying for Child in Need assistance from the Social Services Department.
