Every year in Wales, over 145,000 children and young people attend Accident & Emergency Departments because of an unintentional injury, equivalent to around 400 children every single day.
Children in Wales aims to reduce this toll and our work addresses accident prevention in all locations, including at home, on the road, around water and at school. We support and work closely with members and practitioners across Wales to reduce the number of children and young people injured through accidents every year.
Children in Wales’ work includes:
Bilingual resources for Child Safety Week
Children in Wales have worked with the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) to develop bilingual child accident prevention resources for parents in Wales.
Un Cam ar y Blaen/One Step Ahead is an innovative safety wallchart from the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) for parents and carers of 0-2 year-olds. Beautifully illustrated in full colour and in Welsh on one side and English on the reverse, it maps a child’s age and development to hazards in the home.
Parents who attend A&E when their child has had an accident often say that they are taken by surprise by the fact that they could roll, crawl, climb, reach, open doors and cupboards or remove lids.
Un Cam ar y Blaen/One Step Ahead addresses this by arming them with the knowledge they need to stay one step ahead in preventing their child having a serious accident in the home.
All prices include VAT and p&p. Quantities of more than 50 are available at £1.00 per copy:
