Child Protection Policy and Advice

Kathryn Vickers is Development Officer for Child Protection Policy and Advice. This post is managed jointly by Children in Wales and the Welsh Refugee Council and funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

The overriding aim of the project is to improve child protection practices within the Welsh Refugee Council and Refugee Community Organisations – to develop and improve child protection practice within the Welsh Refugee Council and the 29 Refugee Community Organisations in Wales.

Key Objectives:

Welsh Refugee Council

  1.  To develop screening tools for Welsh Refugee Council staff so that they can provide an improved level of service in relation to child protection generally (and forced marriage, FGM, trafficking and private fostering particularly)
  2. Updating the Child Protection Policy of the Welsh Refugee Council to include more focus on these cultural practices and promote best practise for those working in this field.

Refugee Community Organisations

  1. To raise awareness of child protection issues within the Refugee Community Organisations.
  2. To provide seminars and general awareness raising training with Refugee Community Organisations
