Policy Council
Policy Council

The Children in Wales Policy Council was established in 2005. Its functions include:

  • Identifying issues, concerns and priorities which should be brought to the attention of and addressed by Children in Wales 
  • Advising on policies, priorities and work programmes of Children in Wales; in particular to be actively involved in the development and review of the Children in Wales strategic plan and work programme
  • Receiving briefings and information from the Trustee Board
  • Considering requests from the Trustee Board and/or Senior Managers to give informed comment on particular issues
  • Commenting on matters under consideration by the Trustee Board
  • Promoting the work of Children in Wales throughout different disciplines, sectors and areas in Wales
  • Developing appropriate mechanisms for the effective input of children and young people to the work of the Trustee Board and Policy Council.

Membership of the Policy Council

The Policy Council is made up of the following:

  • All members of the Trustee Board are automatically members of the Policy Council
  • Up to 10 members of the Policy Council may be appointed from organisations with a direct interest in and responsibilities in relation to services for children.  These organisations include: Funky Dragon, Association of Directors of Social Services,  The National Public Health Service, Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Welsh Local Government Association, The Association of Directors of Education in Wales, The NHS Confederation, CAFCASS Cymru and the Association of Chief Police Officers.
  • Up to 21 members may be elected to the Policy Council by a ballot of the membership.  These members are elected in such a way that there is representation from the voluntary sector, health, education, social services and other statutory sector organisations, professional associations, academic departments, individual members and private agencies.
