Promoting Positive and Safe Internet Use
Promoting Positive and Safe Internet Use

Location: Cardiff
Date: 25 Apr 2008
Organiser: Children in Wales

This practical workshop will give professionals an awareness of new Internet and mobile applications and technologies. Issues ranging from Internet proficiency, Internet literacy and safety issues will be explored, as well as grooming in chat rooms, cyber bullying, spyware, spam and scams like "phishing."

The Internet today offers great opportunities for education, learning, fun and entertainment! However, many professionals working with young people do not use the Internet in the same way that young people use it, and many are unsure about the online habits of young people. This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to new Internet technologies and explore how young people are using them. It will also help professionals to better understand the positive opportunities presented by these technologies. Delegates will also gain an understanding of the online risks faced by young people and help them understand and manage key Internet Safety issues. The workshop will also provide resources and strategies to ensure that delegates better manage their own and their young people's personal security online. All delegates will have access to a computer throughout the workshop to gain a practical understanding of the concepts and issues discussed.

The workshop will be delivered by Dr Sangeet Bhullar, founder and Executive Director of WISE KIDS.
