Seven Core Aims & the UN Convention

The Welsh Assembly Government has adopted the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child as the basis for its work with children. It has translated this into Seven Core Aims, promising to work to ensure that all children and young people:

  • Have a flying start in life
  • Have a Comprehensive Range of Education and Learning Opportunities
  • Enjoy the Best possible health and are free from abuse, victimisation and exploitation
  • Have access to play, leisure, sporting and cultural activities
  • Are listened to, treated with respect, and have their race and cultural identity recognise
  • Have a safe home and a community which supports physical and emotional well-being
  • Are not disadvantaged by poverty

Participation

Funky Dragon the Children and Young Peoples Assembly for Wales has been set up with the support of the Assembly to enable children and young people to participate in issues that affect them. Funky Dragon is a peer led organisation which provides children and young people with a voice through their website and events.
