The National Conference for Fatherhood Wales

This one day conference has been arranged to provide policy makers and practitioners working with parents and families with a national focus to examine the relationships between fathers and their children.

The conference features a keynote presentation by Sue Palmer, author of best-selling book Toxic Childhood: how modern life is damaging our children. Her book summarises research findings on how cultural influences have affected child-rearing practices and discusses the implications of these findings for child development.

The conference will also provide a platform for the national launch of Growing up With Dad: Fathers and their impact on Substance use and reveal an analysis of the results from a questionnaire conducted by Catch 22 and completed by 17,933 young people to establish how much a young person’s relationship with their father affects their level of alcohol, smoking and drug use.

The programme will include a range of further keynote presentations and a choice of workshops and provide delegates with opportunities for discussion and networking.

Who should attend

Professionals working with parents and families and other staff from the statutory and voluntary sector including substance use, health and social care.  The conference will also be of interest to professionals working in the education sector, including teachers and educational psychologists.
